Getting Ready for 7th Grade - Language Arts

This course will help prepare students for the rigor of upper middle school English courses. In a small group setting, students will work on their required summer reading assignment while cultivating literature analysis, text annotation, critical thinking, and constructed written response skills. Mentor texts will inspire students to notice how authors use grammatical structures for effect while serving as the impetus for an intense grammar review. Inquiry-based learning will fuel a mini-research project, so students can practice using library databases and MLA format. Furthermore, writing expository, narrative, and persuasive essays will provide opportunities for students to develop revision strategies. Throughout the course, students will practice time management skills, study skills, and organizational strategies essential for success in the new school year.
