  • Developing a Healthy Inner Coach: A Guide for Coaches and Parents

Matt Booth and Dr. Melinda Kirschner
As coaches and parents, we have a powerful influence on the mental and emotional development of athletes, particularly through the way we communicate with them. One key element of this is self-talk, the inner dialogue athletes have with themselves. This internal monologue, shaped by external influences such as coaches, parents, peers, social media, and the broader environment, can either elevate or hinder an athlete's performance. In today’s blog, we dive into the powerful connection between self-talk and performance, offering insight into how coaches and parents alike can nurture a positive, empowering inner coach in athletes.

  • A Record-Breaking Extravaganza - Thank You!

The Extravaganza 2024 Diamond Anniversary, presented by Busey Bank, was an unforgettable celebration of Canterbury School’s 60 years of academic excellence! Together, we raised almost $800,000 during the event! Thanks to the incredible generosity of Dr. Daniel and Mrs. Chely Dosoretz, $575,000 of that amount was matched, bringing our total to a record-breaking $1,365,000! This remarkable achievement ensures brighter futures for our students.

In a special milestone, we also completed the $1 Million Dosoretz Family Fund for Academic Excellence Challenge Match. Before Extravaganza, we raised $425,000 in donations to the Canterbury Fund, with the final $575,000 contributed during the event. These critical funds are already strengthening our school by enabling us to recruit, hire, and retain the most talented and innovative faculty, ensuring an unparalleled educational experience for our students.

FLVS Hope Information

All students are required to obtain 1 credit in Physical and Health Education during their high school years. There are two ways to fulfill this requirement. Students can take the on-campus class Personal Health and Wellness (one semester, 0.5 credit) and any 0.5 credit on-campus PE class OR they can enroll in the 1 credit HOPE (Health Opportunities through Physical Education) course through Florida Virtual School (https://www.flvs.net)*.  Students taking the HOPE class must complete both sections. This may be completed at any time before graduation, including during the summer. When registering for HOPE, do not use a student's Canterbury email account, as these cannot receive email from outside servers.

*Exceptions to this may include transfer students who took an equivalent course at their previous high school. Please contact our Registrar for further information.
