Anika K. '25 Finishes Third at FGCCFL Novice Debate Championships

Congratulations are in order for junior Anika K. '25 on finishing third overall at the 2024 Florida Gulf Coast Catholic Forensics League (FGCCFL) Novice Debate Championships.
Anika traveled to Bradenton, Fla., to compete in her first novice debate championship at Southeast High School on Saturday, April 6, 2024. This was her first year competing in the Lincoln-Douglas Style Debate.

Anika was amongst more than 65 of the top debaters from more than 20 schools up and down the west coast of Florida, finishing the weekend with a record of three wins and one loss for third place. She had to debate for and against the following resolution: The primary objective of the United States criminal justice system ought to be rehabilitation.

Hosting several local tournaments as well as a Grand Finals Qualifier for the NCFL National Tournament, FGCCFL strives for excellence in academics and youth sportsmanship.

Duo debaters cap off a great season.

The 2024 FGCCFL Novice Debate Championship marked the end of a successful debate season for the policy debate duo, Anika and Ella C. '25. The two finished the season undefeated, winning all three of their policy debates. {Story: Policy Debate Duo Sweeps Competition}

In addition to Policy Debate, Anika spent several hours per week to learn and compete individually in Lincoln Douglas Debate, finishing the season with seven wins and two losses in just her first year.

"I am so incredibly proud of these two," remarked coach and advisor Dominic Cameratta. "Other schools have an actual debate class that develops a classroom full of kids who put in a full semester of studying the debate topic.... These two young ladies put in the work outside of the classroom to perfect their craft."

Cameratta also added a special thank you to all support given behind the scenes this year, from administrators to parents and long-time friends in the debate community.
