RECAP: Track & Field Private 8 Championships
The Canterbury boys and girls track and field squads had strong showings at the Private 8 Championships last week, April 18-19, 2024, at Evangelical Christian School.
The girls finished second overall, while the boys finished in sixth. Collectively, the Cougars recorded 20 Top 5 finishes, with five being named Private 8 Champions!
In just her first year in the sport, freshman Ava W. '27 brought home the title in the high jump (1.57m), currently ranking No. 1 in FHSAA 1A. The girls 4x100 relay team (Cheyenne M. '26, Ellie M. '25, Alex T. '25, Joslyne M. '26) raced to a school-record 49.0 to finish in first. Joseph D. '24 cruised to a first-place finish in the 100m (11.56s), while his sister, Joselyn D. '26, brought home the title in the 100m hurdles (15.46s), and Remy F. '26 finished in first in the shot put (8.92m).
The Cougar track and field team now turns its attention to the district meet on Thursday, April 25, at Community School of Naples.
