Lower School Students Shine in Entrepreneur Competition

Canterbury students in kindergarten through fourth grade showcased their business skills in the Lower School  Entrepreneur Competition on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in the Performing Arts Center.
Students worked as sole proprietors or as business partners to create a detailed business plan to share with the judges. In total, more than 80 students participated in this year's event.

The biggest takeaway from participating in an event like the entrepreneurship competition is that students feel a sense of ownership and pride in the business they have created.

"We have kindergarten students who can discuss marketing and advertising strategies... first graders can tell you about profit loss and gain.  In second grade, we have businesses that would make an immediate impact and are ready to roll out now," said Jennifer Stephenson, Canterbury's Director of Technologies.

Stephenson wen on to add, "Third grade students often have detailed displays and 3D models of their businesses along with knowing the key activities that need to be done daily, while in fourth grade, students create more innovative businesses and can explain in detail key partnerships and channels used to reach their customers.

Congratulations to all participants for a job well done. Below are the overall results and grade-level awards:
