Cougar Track + Field Shines in Private 8 Championship

Canterbury’s Track & Field team had an impressive showing in their final tune-up before the road to state, with athletes delivering standout performances despite a smaller squad due to availability and injuries. Competing against schools their own size, our Cougars held their own, setting multiple personal records (PRs) and earning key points in various events at the Private 8 Championship on April 4 at First Baptist Academy.

Notable Boys’ Performances

Collin M. ’25 soared to first place in the High Jump at 1.98m (6’6”), setting a new PR and ranking #2 in our region and #4 in all of 1A!
Mason J. ’25 placed 4th in the 200m (23.55) and 4th in the 400m (53.08), setting a new PR in the 200m.
Gabe D. ’25 and Joel S. ’28 set new PRs in the 100m, with Gabe also PR’ing in the 200m.
Ryder L. ’28 and Braden B. ’27 crushed their Discus PRs, each improving by 3 meters!

Notable Girls’ Performances

Joslyne D. ’26 dominated the 100m Hurdles, taking 1st place with a time of 14.49, breaking her own school record and securing #1 ranking in all of 1A!
Remy F. ’26 claimed 1st place in Shot Put (10.27m), setting a new PR and ranking #4 in the region. She also placed 5th in Discus.
Cheyenne M. ’26 had a strong meet, placing 3rd in the 400m (1:02.68) and 6th in the 100m (13.21, a new PR).
Carlie M. ’28 placed 4th in the 400m (1:02.92, new PR) and 5th in the 200m (27.29, new PR).
Lydia K. ’27 threw a new PR in Shot Put (9.12m) to take 2nd place and is now ranked #12 in our division.
With the district championship coming up on Thursday, April 24, our Cougars are putting in the work and pushing for even bigger achievements.
