Science Olympiad Team Wins First Place

Congratulations to Canterbury School’s Science Olympiad Team on winning first place at the Science Olympiad Regional Competition on January 21, 2017, at Florida SouthWestern State College.
Science Olympiad is a competition for the middle and high school students where they engage in hands-on, interactive, inquiry-based activities that are lab-based, research-based, or prebuilt. Teams are comprised of up to 15 students and a coach. They compete in several different events based on the following subjects: physics, chemistry, earth space science, biology, and engineering.

Our school was represented by two teams, Canterbury Scientists, comprised mostly of juniors and seniors, and Canterbury Researches, represented mostly by freshmen and sophomores. Our main team, Canterbury Scientists, not only won first place, but they also won nine sets of medals, and an invitation to participate the Florida Science Olympiad State Competition. The event will take place in March at the University of Central Florida. Our second team, Canterbury Researches, gained valuable experience and three sets of medals.
Thank you to Dr. Pasishnyk, who served as the coach for both teams, and to our teachers, Mr. Hedman and Mr. Haughey, who helped with the administering or assisting some events. We also appreciate the help of Canterbury parents, Mrs. Choudhury and Mr. O’Connor, who helped to chaperone the students.
