Like the thing in your throat.) will take you on a trip through time to show you the nine worst breakups of all time. The Theatre 1 class directed by Canterbury's Director of Fine & Performing Arts, William Eyerly, will present Ian McWethy's hilarious comedy one act on Thursday, December 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
On Friday, November 17, 2017, our Lower School students enjoyed a special visit with a guest author and alumni parent, Mary Mueller. She shared her recently published children’s book, “What Do You Call An Ant?”

Congratulations are in order for Canterbury’s Model United Nations Club for winning Best Small Delegation at the Stanford University Model United Nations Conference. The event was held November 10-12, 2017, on the campus of Stanford in California. We are also proud to share that the majority of the team was recognized individually, despite competing against more than 600 other students from more than 15 Californian schools.
Canterbury Upper School Theatre will present the classic comedy Arsenic and Old Lace at the Frank Romano Performing Arts Center. The show opens Thursday, November 16, at 7:30 p.m. and continues on Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18, at 7:30 p.m. As always, this show is free and open to the public.

Canterbury School's Thespian Troupe 5782 competed at the District 6 Thespian Festival One Act and Individual Events Competition on Thursday, November 2 through Saturday, November 4. Almost 30 schools from five Southwest Florida counties competed. Students are adjudicated as Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent, or Superior. Awards are given for students earning an Excellent or Superior rating.
Congratulations to our Varsity Girls Cross Country team on placing third in the regional meet on November 3. The team will now advance to the state finals in Tallahassee on November 11.
Upper School students enjoyed attending our Mini College Fair held in the Rubenstein Courtyard on Thursday, November 2. The weather was perfect as students visited with college representatives from more than 20 colleges.
Congratulations to Canterbury’s Model United Nations Club for bringing home five awards from KnightMUN Conference. We had a total of 22 delegates attend the conference held on the campus of the University of Central Florida from October 20-22, 2017.
Congratulations to our Varsity Girls Cross Country team on claiming the District 1A-8 Championship for the second year in a row! The meet took place on October 26, 2017, at Mackle Park on Marco Island. In addition to winning first place, five of our girls finished in the top 15!
Canterbury's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Nations Association begins on Monday, October 23. Each year, our school's generosity ensures that dozens of local families in need will have enough food for the week of Thanksgiving. In order for this food drive to be successful, it is extremely important that each grade level bring in all of their assigned food.
Congratulations to our Varsity Girls Golf team on claiming the District 1A-17 Championship for the second year in a row! The tournament took place Tuesday (October 17, 2017) at Stoneybrook Country Club in Estero. Our Lady Cougars shot a 357, edging out Bishop Verot by 61 strokes! Brittany S. '19 shot an even-par 72.
The popular Canterbury Arts Prowl festivals continue with a new venue for the 2017-2018 school year: The LSJ Courtyard. "We wanted to bring the festival to a different part of the school so it would be visible and accessible to all three divisions," explains Director of Fine & Performing Arts Dr. William Eyerly. "This year we move from the Upper School side of the campus to the LSJ Courtyard between the Lower and Middle School Divisions."

Canterbury School would like to congratulate Austan C. ’28 and Michaela F. ’24 for recently taking home awards at the 2017 Regional Inventors Fair.
Austan C. ’28 won second place in his grade level for his “Need It!” invention. He developed a holder that he can wear to carry his EpiPen and iPod.
Michaela F. ’24 won the Edison Innovators Award for her “Bio-Lunch” invention, which is an allergen friendly lunch made in an environmentally safe package.

Remy F. ’26 is a Cub Choir member and an active participant in music activities at Canterbury School. She recently performed in the third-grade musical, Dogsled Days. She was also chosen to be the Director’s Assistant for this performance. Remy helped organize costumes and props for the show, and also worked with classmates on music and dialogue. She is a fantastic problem solver and came up with lots of ideas to make the show great! Remy is certainly going to be part of our musicals for years to come!

On Thursday, May 25, 2017, the Rho Kappa Florida Council for the Social Studies Student History Honor Society inducted 16 Canterbury students into its program.
Canterbury School would like to recognize four Middle School students as recipients of the 2017 National Junior Honor Society Outstanding Achievement Award. Nominated by NJHS sponsor Erin Smith, each student was chosen based on an outstanding record of academics, leadership, and community service. Only 500 exceptional NJHS students are honored nationwide each year and each student will receive a $500 award to be placed in a college savings account. Congratulations to the following students!

This week the spotlight shines brightly on our Upper School Theatre program and the Canterbury Thespian Troupe #5782. This past week, they competed at the largest theatre event in the world - the Florida State Thespian Festival in Tampa, Florida. Over the course of the four-day festival, held March 15 -18, fourteen Canterbury theatre students competed with 8,000 theatre students from across the state. Each event is adjudicated by a three-judge panel as either Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent, or Superior. Awards are given to students earning Excellent and Superior which represent the top 25 percent of all performances.

Marathon is a Canterbury tradition in which students run and walk to raise money for worthy causes. Canterbury selected The Heights Foundation and American Heart Association to receive funds from the annual event.
For the eighth year in a row, Canterbury’s French Academic Team took first place in the Division IA Congres de la Culture Francaise en Floride! The competition was held March 9-11, 2017, in Orlando.

We are pleased to welcome Edward Calkins as our next LIFT Lecture Series speaker on Wednesday, March 22, at 10:50 a.m. in Canterbury's PAC. Mr. Calkins is a partner at RGM Capital, which is based in Naples. He received his Master's in Business Administration from Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management in 1994 and his Bachelor of Arts in History from Princeton University in 1992. Mr. Calkins was also a member of the 1992 NCAA National Championship lacrosse team at Princeton. Click here to read more about Mr. Calkins.

Congratulations to Maya A. ’21 for being recognized as a Carson Scholar for the fourth year in a row! Maya was recently honored at the Florida Awards Banquet for the Carson Scholars Fund Florida Awards on April 2, 2017. Maya is one of 872 previous scholarship winners to have achieved recognition status this year. These previous scholars have continued to meet the high standards of the Carson Scholars Fund. On Thursday, March 2, nine Canterbury students were inducted into the French Honor Society, La Société Honoraire de Français. To be considered for induction, initiates must be sophomores, juniors or seniors, and have maintained an A- average in French for three semesters. Ms. Kathryn Wilbur presided over the ceremony and would like to recognize everyone who helped make the event a success.
Congratulations to our Varsity Girls Tennis team on winning the District Championship! Our Lady Cougars played with great pride and determination as they battled players from Community School of Naples, First Baptist Academy, and Seacrest on April 12, 2017, at Vineyards Country Club in Naples. This is the second district title for our Varsity Girls Tennis program. "Our girls have worked so hard this season and they were really focused on winning. It was amazing to watch the girls play their hearts out. They were on fire!" explains Coach Sibo Kangwa.

Sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica recognizes “high achievement in Spanish or Portuguese and promotes the continuity of interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.”
On March 6, 2017, 21 Canterbury students became the newest members of this society. The second oldest honor society on campus, this year’s induction marks the 27th class of new members! For induction, students must be a sophomore or higher and maintain an average of 90 percent for three consecutive semesters in advanced Spanish classes. They are also required to have a Spanish teacher(s) endorsement. A list of inductees is included below.
Canterbury School is proud to recognize Jay C. ‘17 as a Finalist in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Jay will now be considered alongside 15,000 finalists for National Merit Scholarships. The National Merit Scholarship Program will announce the 7,500 finalists selected to receive Merit Scholarship awards beginning in April.
The new black box performance space in the performing arts wing of the Upper School has been transformed into a quaint nightclub dubbed “The Serenata”. The setting transports the audience back to the Prohibition era just before the Great Depression. The Serenata is a speakeasy where patrons can illegally drink and enjoy live music. The club’s owner has a complex past and the club is his escape. The story follows the life of the club and its patrons through 25 years of American music – from Ragtime, Jazz, and Blues to Big Band Swing and Rock and Roll.
