Canterbury MUN Receives Outstanding Delegation Award at GatorMUN

Laith A. ‘25 represented Andrea Doria and Captain Nemo in the Adhoc Crisis committee. The committee turned out to be a JCC between pirates and governments. Laith was on the government team and in the front room pushed for large naval attacks and false flag truces with the pirates. In the back room, Laith collected the kraken’s shell and Poseidon’s trident to wreak havoc on both his government allies and the pirates. Soon after he took over the island of Jake and the Neverland pirates and used its pixie dust to turn the Nautilus into a flying war machine. Laith received the Best Delegate Award for his efforts! Congratulations, Laith!

Preston F. ‘25 represented François Joseph Lefebvre in The Napoleonic Wars, Napoleon’s Marshals committee. The goal of the committee was to secure victory in the Napoleonic Wars. Preston created a newspaper and a defense contracting firm and became King of Italy. In addition to being the King of Italy, Preston became the Governor of Venice, the Head of the Paris Times, and Lefebvre-Melendez. The Paris Times burned down and was used to frame individuals as traitors in crisis updates. Preston received the Best Delegate award for his efforts! Great job, Preston!

 

Alexa G. '24 represented CNN in the Press Corps committee. In this unorthodox committee, Alexa reported on the events of another committee, creating tweets, Instagram posts, and long articles. She reported on the Oval Office committee, covering topics like the murder of the President and the implementation of an environmental sustainability campaign. She also implemented graphic design elements, redesigning the CNN logo and creating engaging Instagram and Twitter outlines. She received the Outstanding Delegate award for her efforts. Great job, Alexa!

 

Bo H. ‘24 represented Mrs. Lincoln in the Wizards101 Board of Trustees of the Raven School of Magical Arts committee. Within committee, delegates simulated the board of trustees of a university dedicated to teaching magic. Crisis updates included evil wizards, stolen artifacts, and pirates. Bo’s crisis arc infiltrated and took over a pirate group. He utilized themes to take over the university eventually. Bo received the Outstanding Delegate award for his efforts. Congratulations, Bo!

 

Grady L. ‘24 represented Toadette in the Powerup: Mushroom Kingdom Crisis committee. He aimed to help lead the committee in the battle against Bowser while strategically gaining as much power as possible. Grady utilized tactics to intercept and alter messages, making him the King of the Mushroom Kingdom, winning a mayoral election for Central Du Point city , and organizing a military coup of Donkey King Island. He received the Outstanding Delegate award for his efforts. Congratulations, Grady!

 

Azriela C. ‘27 and Natalia R. ‘27 represented China in the FAO committee, which addressed NGO protocols in South Sudan. They advocated for education, sustainability, and community involvement and introduced checks and balances for NGOs to ensure adequate fund utilization. They crafted and led the LUNCH resolution paper and merged it with SUPPER, creating SUPPER for LUNCH, which successfully passed. Azriela and Natalia received the Honorable Delegate award for their efforts. Congratulations, Azriela and Natalia!

 

Kyle F. ‘25 represented China in the UNHRC committee, where he addressed the issue of Topic 1: water sustainability. Kyle led the S.P.A.T A.C.T.S bloc, where he spearheaded the development of a plan to reduce carbon emissions, providing financial aid and assistance to help underdeveloped countries deal with water crises and pollution issues. Kyle produced short- and long-term solutions to address the water crisis in underdeveloped countries and those lacking adequate technology to address water pollution. Kyle received the Honorable Delegate award 3rd out of 47 delegates for his efforts. Congratulations, Kyle!

 

Kai W. ‘24 represented the Fundraising Coordinator in the Road to the Election committee. The committee acted as the campaign team for a presidential campaign. Kai and committee delegates chose Nate Turner, a farmer, as the candidate. Delegates first worked on building Nate Turner’s popularity and then focused on unveiling his future plans. Kai created both a budget for the campaign as well as fundraisers. The committee delved further into very serious issues including assassination attempts and a complete eradication of the presidential line of succession. Kai’s main focus throughout committee were the financial aspects of the campaign. Kai received a Verbal Commendation for his efforts. Congratulations, Kai!

Mehereen C. ‘25 represented the Al Jazeera News-network during the duration of the GATORMUN Conference. She wrote articles about the events of the other committees at the conference, and created headlining Instagram and Twitter posts for the committees. Mehereen received a Verbal Commendation for her efforts. Congratulations, Mehereen!

 

Michaela F. ‘24 represented Igataki in the Edo Period of Japan: Sustainable Society committee. Delegates represented various parties within Japan and debated issues related to foreign influence and economic development. In the front room, Michaela worked to pass directives aimed at advancing technological development and protecting Japan from foreign intrusion. In the back room, Michaela created an independent society, factory, and trading port with the goal of expanding her influence throughout Japan. Michaela received a Verbal Commendation for her efforts. Great job, Michaela!

 

Anayah C. ‘27 represented the United Kingdom in the UN-Habitat II committee. The committee focused on adequate shelter for all and sustainable development within an urbanizing world. Anayah sponsored and was on the authors' panel for the resolution paper. She advocated for the paper through speeches throughout the committee session. In addition, Anayah worked to fund different blocs' resolution papers.

 

Imoni A. ‘27 represented the Russian Confederation in the IMO committee, where she addressed the issue of illegal, unreported, and undocumented fishing. Imoni helped formulate and lead the bloc, AI-CATCH, also known as AI-C, to tackle the issue at hand. Imoni collaborated with other delegates within the committee and passed two resolutions.

 

Jacques M. ‘26 represented Ukraine in the UNECE committee at GatorMUN. In committee, he was able to join a bloc led by the USA to create a short-term fossil fuel solution and long-term renewable energy solution to solve topic 1. Jacques collaborated with many of his peers in writing the draft for the resolution and gave many speeches on Ukraine's position. Jacques secured a spot on the author's panel, and the resolution put forth by his bloc was successfully passed.

 

Kaden K. ‘26 represented Sydney Street in the They’re Burning All the Witches: Taylor Swift’s Management Team 2016 committee. He passed multiple directives, such as the creation of a non-profit organization to improve Swift’s reputation. In the back room, Kaden embezzled millions of dollars from the management company he represented and created holograms and his own management company to outdo Taylor Swift. Committee delegates tried to solve many issues, such as fighting racism allegations and accusations of members working with Satanists.

Lauren T. '26 represented the Dominican Republic in the UN-OHRLLS committee to address the challenges Small Island Developing States (SIDS) faced. Within the committee, Lauren worked on effective strategies to combat invasive species and protect the biodiversity of flora and fauna in these developing island states. Furthermore, Lauren worked to find sustainable approaches for economic growth in developing islands.

 

Rachell S. ‘26 represented Alison Hudson in the They’re Burning All the Witches: Taylor Swift’s Management Team 2016 committee. Rachell and other delegates attempted to coordinate a response to Taylor Swift’s public relations crisis, which occurred after Kanye West released his song “Famous.” Rachell and other delegates were tasked with protecting Swift’s privacy and reputation while promoting her career.

Tegan F. '26 and Zoe M. ‘26 represented China in the UN-Habitat II committee. After the committee voted to address Topic A, Affordable Shelter, Tegan, and Zoe collaborated with fellow delegates to create the FOREVER HOME resolution paper. The resolution paper passed. Tegan and Zoe advocated for funding mechanisms to ensure that nations with higher GDPs also received substantial aid and resources. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of utilizing the support of local NGOs to allow for more equitable aid.
