Award-Winning Author Natalia Sylvester Visits Canterbury School
Canterbury School was honored to welcome award-winning author Natalia Sylvester to campus on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Sylvester, a South Florida-based writer of books for adults, teens, and children, spent the day engaging with students across multiple grade levels, sharing insights into her writing process, and inspiring young writers.
Her visit began with a special workshop and book signing for fourth-grade students, where she discussed storytelling and encouraged creativity. Later, she held an exclusive writing workshop for a select group of Upper School students, followed by another book signing.
Upper School student Claire O. ’26 reflected on the experience: “I really enjoyed today’s writing workshop. It was a great opportunity for us all to get to know the author and her writing process. I was very interested in her ability to bring emotion into the words she’s putting on the page (which is incredibly hard to do). It was a great opportunity for anyone thinking of becoming a writer or even just being able to better compose an essay for class. She was very intriguing and kept me engaged during the workshop. I enjoyed hearing others’ works and their ideas behind them.”
Sylvester concluded her visit by meeting with Middle School students in grades 6-8, continuing to inspire the next generation of readers and writers.
Her visit provided an invaluable opportunity for Canterbury students to learn from a working author, explore the art of storytelling, and gain a deeper appreciation for the power of words.
