Canterbury Students Make Their Mark at Congreso 2025
Congreso 2025 was an unforgettable and inspiring experience for our Spanish students! Sixteen Canterbury Upper School students traveled to Orlando for the Florida State Spanish Conference on April 17–19, where they competed among 24 schools in one of the state’s most challenging academic and cultural events.
Our team delivered an incredible performance, earning 19 Sobresaliente (highest), 2 Superior (second-highest), and 1 Excelente (third-highest) awards, a true testament to their preparation, dedication, and talent.

Melania P. ’28 captivated judges and audience alike with her Argentine tango, placing in the top four statewide.
Poster Competition – 3rd Place
Leena A. ’27 wowed judges with a creative, interactive poster inspired by the theme El español, un mundo sin límites, featuring a QR-linked Google Slides presentation.
Traditional Attire Presentation:
Zoe M. ’27 represented Trujillo, Peru in traditional dress.
Natalia R. ’27 honored Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, wearing a beautifully handcrafted outfit made by her grandmother.
Cultural Projects:
Natalia R. ’27, Anayah C. ’27, and Olivia R. ’27 created impressive models of the Pyramid of Teotihuacán (Mexico) and a section of Easter Island (Chile), marking Canterbury’s first participation in this non-academic category.
Senior Essay:
Mehereen C. ’25 and Jess M. ’25 took on the challenge of writing timed essays in Spanish on surprise topics, competing among more than 50 top seniors from across the state.
