Alumni Eric Rubenstein ’00 Inspires Upper School Students

Canterbury School was delighted to welcome Eric Rubenstein ’00 back to campus for our Leadership Institute for Tomorrow (LIFT) Lecture Series. Eric captivated Upper School students with his insights into the dynamic field of sustainability investing and shared invaluable lessons for personal and professional growth.
During his presentation, Eric encouraged students to:

  • Learn how to learn – Cultivate a mindset of curiosity and adaptability.
  • Pursue what interests you – You’ll naturally excel at things you’re passionate about.
  • Put in the work – “There is no substitute for hard work.” - Thomas Edison
  • Find mentors and be social – Surround yourself with people who inspire and guide you.
  • Embrace failure as a teacher – Learn from setbacks, as reflected in quotes like, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” and “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”
  • Be bold and try new things – Fortune favors those who take calculated risks.
  • Recognize the value of preparation meeting opportunity – Luck is often the result of hard work and readiness.

Eric also highlighted his work with New Climate Ventures, a venture capital firm dedicated to advancing innovative carbon reduction and avoidance technologies. He emphasized the importance of impactful and forward-thinking investments.

A proud graduate of Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Eric went on to earn an MBA from Temple University, focusing on Global Business and Entrepreneurship. He now resides in Houston, Texas, with his wife and their four daughters.

We are grateful to Eric for inspiring our students and look forward to his continued involvement with Canterbury’s LIFT Lecture Series.
