Congratulations to Banner B. ’28 on being selected as our Athlete of the Week for February 17-23, 2025!
In just his first year of wrestling, Banner has shown relentless hard work and determination every time he steps on the mat. His efforts have paid off, as he has already recorded 18 wins this season.
“Banner has worked extremely hard all year, and his passion for the sport is undeniable,” said Coach TQ Humes. “From day one, he’s been focused on getting better, and it’s showing in his results.”
At his first district championship tournament, Banner earned the No. 2 seed in the 165-pound weight class. He proved he belonged, battling his way to the finals against a previous state qualifier. Rising to the occasion, Banner delivered a historic performance, becoming Canterbury’s first-ever District Wrestling Champion.
“He was determined to show that his time was now,” Coach TQ added. “He embraced the moment and made school history.”
Now, the freshman standout has his sights set on an even bigger goal—qualifying for the state tournament. He will compete in the regional tournament this Friday and Saturday, looking to continue his impressive run.
Way to go, Banner!
