Sometimes, just a little bit of warmth and kindness is all that is needed to help heal someone in need.
When Leena A. '27 came across Project Linus she knew instantly that she wanted to get involved and help make a difference. The Canterbury ninth grader decided to start a Project Linus Club, the first of its kind in Southwest Florida, at school. They had their inaugural club meeting on Wednesday, February 28, where Leena brought in Matilda Wilson, Project Linus Coordinator for Lee County.
Project Linus, a national organization based in Missouri, provides handmade blankets to children across the country who are battling illnesses or suffering from tragedy. The Lee County Chapter partners with organizations such as: Golisano Children's Hospital, Valerie's House, Children's Advocacy Center, ACT, Children's Home Society of Florida, and the Fort Myers Police Department.
“Just a simple blanket, can mean the world to these kids and bring them a sense of happiness, security, and hope," remarked Leena. "And to have the opportunity to do that and bring a smile upon their faces is truly something special.”
